ABSTRACT

A novel Sr induced approach was developed to prepare powder crystal by molten salt synthesis. Two systems, e.g. Nb2O5+KCl and Nb2O5+NaCl+KCl, were investigated. It was found that a small addition of Sr was favorable to induce formation of a tetragonal tungsten bronze structure phase in the both systems. Acicular potassium sodium niobate particles with a high aspect ratio were fabricated in the Nb2O5+NaCl+KCl system, which will be appropriate templates for fabrication of textured (K0.5Na0.5)NbO3 ceramics with a small grain size. This work opens up a new avenue for the design other templates with a needle-like morphology.
